A SPECI is an acronym for Aviation Selected Special Weather Report and is essentially a METAR issued aperiodically because of significant and/or rapid changes in conditions at the observation site. When displaying textual METARs, SPECIs (if present) are highlighted in Yellow on the ‘REPORTS AVAILABLE IN AREA’ line.
