What is a solicitors letter?
A solicitor’s letter is a letter sent on your behalf to a customer who owes you money from an outstanding invoice. This letter warns your customer that you will start court proceedings if the debt is not paid within seven days, and alone can often be enough to prompt payment. Sending a solicitor’s letter (also described as a Letter Before Action (LBA) or ‘7 day letter’) is a serious step and you should only send one if your customer’s invoice is significantly overdue, they have not raised a legitimate dispute regarding the invoice, or you are serious about starting court proceedings if your customer still fails to pay up. In CREDITFOCUS you’ll find a representation of a standard solicitor’s letter, all you have to do is add the information regarding your customer’s outstanding invoice to this. You then send this information off to the CREDITFOCUS solicitor’s firm (Lester Aldridge) who will send a letter out on your behalf.
