What is a Sod Cutter?
We rented a sod cutter this past spring. It was either $45 or $60 for 4 hours – not sure now. Anyway, it has a big blade the cuts off the grass in long rows. Then you roll it up. We cut a REALLY big area – both for a garden and a swingset area (which we covered with mulch). We needed a dumpster to dispose of all our sod. It worked great once we got the hang of how to use it.
A sod cutter is a tool which is used to cut sod, as you might imagine from the name. There are a number of situations in which a sod cutter can be useful, and many landscapers keep a sod cutter on hand. Sod cutters are also stocked in hardware stores, and sometimes they are available through tool libraries or companies which specialize in equipment rental. When you plan to work with a lot of sod, purchasing a sod cutter can be well worth it.
