I would characterize social phobias as shyness on steroids. The socially phobic individually suffers extreme self consciousness and concern about negative evaluation from others resulting in extreme discomfort or withdrawal in certain social situations, to which they want to participate. How I treat shyness and social phobias Social Phobias are treated the same way as other phobias with greater emphasis on building or regaining self confidence and social skills.
