What is a SMART Objective?
Objectives should be developed to address specific problems identified in the needs assessment. Objectives must be SMART. • Specific – The objective must address the specific performance needs. • Measureable – The objective should include measurable expectations. • Agreeable – The objective should be agreed upon in a collaborative manner. • Realistic – The objective should be achievable for the given timeframe and resources. • Time-bound – The objective should provide a timeframe to achieve the desired results. Sample SMART Objectives: By June, 2012, 86% of students will be proficient (as measured by FCAT) in reading, or meet State provisions. By June, 2013, 93% of students will be proficient (as measured by FCAT) in reading, or meet State provisions . By June, 2014, 100% of students will be proficient (as measured by FCAT) in reading, or meet State provisions .
