What is a Short Code?
A Short Code is a four or five digit number (i.e. 64111), activated by a mobile operator on its network. Premium SMS-based services use these numbers, they are available with mobile operator in the countries LuxSMS provides its services in (Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, France, UK). Using the same code on every network is possible as well. Voice calls cannot be made to the codes, they are only available for SMS/MMS.
A short code is a special telephone number, 5 or 6 digits long, that can be used for text messaging/SMS. For all mobile marketing campaigns, the carriers require a short code to be assigned to each campaign. Short codes cannot be bought like a website address, but can only be leased through www.usshortcodes.com.
Short codes are numbers made specifically for SMS and MMS messages. Twitter uses various short codes to send and receive your updates. Sending a text message to a short code is just like sending a text message to a phone number. Short codes are made specifically for text messaging, so you can’t send an email to a short code, or call a short code. Charges for using our short codes are the same as standard text messaging rates to full-length phone numbers.
