What is a sheltered workshop?
A. A sheltered work shop is business, typically a 501(c)3 not for profit, that employs people that the State of Missouri has certified as being or having a mental or physical incapacity. The business must comply with state regulations regarding the hours that can be worked, pay rates, safety, type of work that can be perform, etc. This gives the people that usually can not find gainful employment an opportunity to have gainful employment. This provides the feeling of being a productive employee, earning their own money and each person has a job to go to each day. Sheltered workshops do take donations to help with their operational costs.
