What is a shared custody or joint custody arrangement?
A shared custody arrangement or joint custody arrangement is one where both parents share either physical and/or legal custody of the children. Physical custody refers to where a child resides. Shared physical custody means that a child splits his time between living with both parents. Legal custody refers to the major decisions a parent makes about the child’s health, education, religious upbringing and welfare. Shared legal custody means that both parents are involved in that decision making process.
