What is a “shade” and how are they handled?
In the ceramics sector the term Shade means the degree of luminosity of the colours. In the context of any given colour, a material with greater or lesser luminosity (e.g. more or less clear, with veining evident to a greater or lesser degree) is subdivided into different “shades”. The criteria for the subdivision of the “shades” of the production depend on the typ of material, identifying batches of aesthetically homogeneous material. For many types of material (for example rustic or marbled) the non-uniformity in the colour or pattern of the veining is an aesthetic quality that accentuates the natural aspect, increasing the value of the material. The best results in laying materials inspired by marble or natural stone are obtained by mixing several pieces taken from different packages and arranging them so as to obtain the best colour and aesthetic effect.
