What is a session with a tutor like?

No appointments are necessary. Writing tutors meet individually with students to discuss a specific paper or other piece of writing. Appointments are approximately half an hour long and may be scheduled by email to a tutor or may occur on a drop-in basis. Students are encouraged to contact their chosen tutor ahead of time and, if possible, email the tutor a copy of the paper so that the tutor can prepare comments ahead of time. Finally, tutors are not allowed to help with take-home finals and writing tutors specifically are not allowed to read papers off of computers. Such help violates Stanford’s Honor Code. If you are uncertain whether or not a paper constitutes a take-home final, please verify with your professor or section leader that outside help is permissible on that assignment, and be sure to always bring a hard copy of your work to your tutoring session.
