A. Service channel lasers are used to carry telemetry signals between optical nodes. They are strictly used to provide a system management channel separate from the main signal-carrying WDM channels. Some use wavelengths that are more sensitive to the environment than the primary communications wavelength. Hence, the service channel will show a degradation before the primary communications wavelength.
