What is a self-extracting file?

0

A self-extracting file, typically named with a “.exe” at the end, contains several files that are needed to perform an GPS database update. The GPS Database Loader program will extract everything out of the “.exe” file to be loaded into a user’s GPS. If a user is using a DOS-based Netload program, he or she will need to extract the files before running Netload. For Netload users, type “database” at the DOS prompt inside the directory where the database.exe file resides on the user’s computer and all files inside it will automatically be extracted to the hard drive.
