What is a sedentary lifestyle, and why is it a problem?
A sedentary (inactive) lifestyle is one of the top risk factors for heart disease. Unfortunately, people in the U.S. have tended to become more and more sedentary over time. The good news is that this is a risk factor that is totally reversible. Regular exercise, especially aerobic exercise, has many benefits. Research studies have shown that adequate physical activity may reduce the possibility of getting heart disease. It may also reduce mortality from heart disease by approximately sixty-six percent. After someone has had a coronary event, physical fitness can play a major role in slowing down heart disease, and MAY play a role in actually reversing heart disease.
