What is a Safety Plan and why is it necessary?
A Safety Plan is a written document prepared by the organizer that identifies potential hazards and risks associated with the temporary space use, and the measures to be employed to mitigate potential harm to individuals or damage to property. The Safety Plan (i.e., that can be in point form) shall take into consideration the nature of the activity/Event; the adequacy of the size of the space relative to the number of participants (including audience and/or spectators); possible or known opposing perspectives; logistical set-up; special circumstances (e.g. persons with disabilities); security arrangements; participant health and safety; fire regulations; emergency response/evacuation plan; etc. (Reference: Temporary Use of University Space Procedure, Pg. 7, “Safety Assessment, Costs and Deposits”; http://www.yorku.ca/univsec/policies/background_docs/Temporary%20Use%20of%20University%20Space.
