What is a rubble trench foundation?

0

A rubble trench foundation is an alternative to poured concrete foundations that has been in use for centuries. Many of the oldest buildings in the world use this foundation system and they still stand today. In this system we dig a trench one foot wider than the wall to be placed on top of it and deep enough to penetrate below the frost line – as called for by local code. We then begin filling the trnch with rubble up to 1 & ¾ inches in size.
