What is a Roleplaying Game (RPG)?
A. You’d may or may not be surprised how often I have to answer this question. A roleplaying game is, at its essence, a way of playing a character who is usually extraordinary. It can be played on a game system, such as the PlayStation 2, or it can be played at a table with your buddies, eating munchies and making jokes. This game is the second. The game takes place in your imagination, and you are not limited by the programming of a keyboard jockey (no offense intended toward any programmers, merely a comment about the power of the human imagination). You use a system of rules to help your character interact with the world around them. For a somewhat accurate analogy, imagine playing Half-Life, except the areas aren’t linear, Alyx in controlled by another player, Gordon actually talks, and the enemy AI is the best it can be.
