What is a Resistor?
According to me, A resistor is an electrical component that limits or regulates the flow of electrical current in an electronic circuit. It is used to limit and/or control the voltage and current in an electronic circuit. Resistors are many different types which are used for different purposes. More
A resistor is a component of an electrical circuit that resists the flow of electrical current. A resistor has two terminals across which electricity must pass, and is designed to drop the voltage of the current as it flows from one terminal to the next. A resistor is primarily used to create and maintain a known safe current within an electrical component. Resistance is measured in ohms, after Ohm’s law. This rule states that electrical resistance is equal to the drop in voltage across the terminals of the resistor divided by the current being applied to the resistor. A high ohm rating indicates a high resistance to current. This rating can be written in a number of different ways depending on the ohm rating. For example, 81R represents 81 ohms, while 81K represents 81,000 ohms. The amount of resistance offered by a resistor is determined by its physical construction. A carbon composition resistor has resistive carbon packed into a ceramic cylinder, while a carbon film resistor consis
Per Group • battery- 6 volt • two wires, 12″ long with stripped wire ends • steel wool or a copper scrubber • scotch tape • scissors • balloon (get the cheap kind; nice latex balloons don’t work well with this demonstration) • Resistors Worksheet Place the RISE girls into cooperative groups of two or three. Have the girls work together to share the responsibilities of recording data and manipulating materials. 1. Have the girls in each group inflate and tie one balloon. 2. Next they need to pull one small strand about two inches long out of either the steel wool or the copper scrubber. Have them cut off the strand. This strand is their electrical resistor. A resistor allows electricity to flow through it but with some resistance which thereby limits the electrical flow to varying degrees depending on the type of the resisitor. Next tape the thin strand of wire to the balloon leaving the ends of the thin strand free. 3. Now have the girls attach the two 12 inch wires to the terminals of
A resistor is an electronic component that reduces electrical current between two terminals because of Ohms law. The term resistance occurs when an object blocks the flow of electricity, thus reducing voltage. Many household appliances produce resistance such as the light bulb because of the filament in the bulb. Resistors are objects that specify in resistance to reduce currents for small electronics. A German physicist, Geog Ohm, was a professor at the college at Cologne in 1817 and in the polytechnic school of Nuremberg in 1833, and in 1852 became professor of experimental physics in the university of Munich, where he later died. He experimented with different types of wires and found that they had different measurements in voltage. He then measured the current with a voltmeter and discovered a measurement in resistance. He then created the symbol (Ω) to show how much resistance an object has on a circuit. Ohm found that the resistance for most conductors does not depend on the volt
