What is a reptile its characteristics and give some examples?
a reptile is classed as cold blooded, they are unable to generate their own body heat like birds and mammals they need an outside heat source to regulate their body temperature, this is called thermoregulation, most will use the scales on their body just like a solar panel and capture the heat from the sun, such animals are termed ectotherms once they have done this they are usually very active, but most of the time it also helps with the the aid of digestion so most reptiles also need this external heat to digest their food as it keeps the whole reptile healthy so it is not just to keep warm but kick starts the whole reptile, most reptiles will lay eggs, but some who live in cooler temps will incubate the eggs inside them so are classed as live bearers, a few snakes and lizards do this, some examples of reptiles are, turtles and tortoises, lizards, crocodiles, alligators, snakes,, hope this helps honey best of luck.
