Under certain circumstances, Curtin University may request from the Australian Tax Office (ATO) a reduction of debt that was previously deferred. A Remission of HELP-Debt may be requested by Commonwealth Supported Students who: • Utilised either HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP to assist with the payment of tuition fees and had their debt deferred to the ATO; and • Were still enrolled after the census date for a particular study period but were unable to continue studying because of circumstances outside of their control. In order to be considered for a remission of debt, students must complete an Application for Refund/Remission of Debt/Withdrawal Under Special Circumstances form in its entirety and submit relevant original documentation that supports their case. Students must demonstrate that the circumstances for the remission of debt: • Were beyond the control of the student; • Did not make their full impact until on or after the census date; and • Affected the student to the extent that they
