What is a registered Music Therapist?
Registered Music Therapists (RMTs) have an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in music therapy and must receive 1040 hours of clinical training prior to registration. RMTs must be registered with the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) in order to practise and are bound by the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practise of the AMTA. Currently there are over 300 RMTs practicing in Australia. Music therapists predominantly engage patients with live music and are trained to adapt music to suit the immediate needs of the patient.
