What is a Registered Dietetic Technician (DTR)?
• A DTR is trained in food and nutrition and is an integral part of health care and foodservice management teams. DTRs may work in schools, health care facilities, hospitals, nursing homes, health clubs, or food companies. Check out the website at the American Dietetic Association for more information on programs. http://www.eatright.org/becomeadtr.html • To become a DTR, a 2 year associates degree is required from a Dietetic Technician program approved by the American Dietetic Association. An additional 450 hours of supervised practice experience in various areas of nutrition are also required. Then, you may take the national examination to become a DTR. • Currently, there is one approved DTR program in Arizona at Central Arizona College in Coolidge.
