What is a recommended treatment report?
Once your painting has been examined and its condition assessed, the conservator will make some recommendations for treatment, which should be presented to you in writing. Where surface dust and dirt are present, for example, the conservator will decide if and how it may be removed safely. For physical damage to paint or to the canvas itself, for example a hole or deep scratch, options may include localised treatment or lining – an additional support stuck to the back of a damaged one – see Glossary of Terms. There may be a range of options, or only one or two, but they should be explained by the conservator and the cost estimated for each (see below).
