What is a “recess”?
A “recess” is a mod invented by a yo-yo player by the name of Mitchell Takeshi Thomas Red-Cloud Kamisato in which the area on which the friction sticker usually sits is cut down so as the friction sticker sits lower then the bearing. See diagram for added explanation. This mod is popular among players of Duncan yo-yos. It allows a regular Duncan Friction Sticker to last much longer then it would otherwise, an provides no response, yet a sharp and forceful bind. It is a cheap, popular, and effective modification.
