What is a reasonable rate to pay a babysitter / childminder?

If she is going to be looking after your children in her house as a childminder (she would have to be registered as a childminder to do this) then I imagine she already has her own rates. I am not sure what they are in Scotland, but I should say anything between £2.80 and £4.50 per hour per child. If she is going to be a full time nanny for you in your house then you have to pay her at least the minimum wage, but if she is qualified then you should add at least £1 to £2 on top of that depending on her age and experience. If you only want her to do part time or irregular hours then she will probably want anything between £5 and £10 per hour again depending of age, experience and also the hours required to work. Unsociable hours will cost you more. Getting someone qualified and with a CRB disclosure is probably the safest way of having your children looked after so it has to be worth paying a little extra for it.
