A multiple re-entry permit costs 6,000 yen and allows you to leave Japan and return as many times as you like during the period of your visa’s validity. If you do not intend to leave Japan more than once during your 3-year visa validity, by all means ignore this advice, but a multiple permit is recommended. You never know when you might be called back to your home country in an emergency. Remember: The re-entry permit is only valid for the period of your visa.
