What is a Rattrapante (Split Second or Dopplechronograph) and Flyback (Retour a vol)?

Both these are additional complications on the Chronograph. The Rattrapante(French) or Split Second(English) or Dopplechronograph(German) has two second hands. With a press of the button, one of them stops, therefore an intermediate or split time can be read. Repressing the button or releasing the button (depending upon brand and reference) the stopped second hand will catch the main second’s hand. Comparably a Flyback or “Retour a vol” (French) only has one Chronograph second hand. With a press of a button, the chronograph will instantly reset and start again. This complication was invented for Pilots to reduce the time needed to “play” with the chronograph during perilous flights, when there is a need for continuous flying over certain timed segments.
