What is a rack-mount console?
A rack-mount console is an all-in-one flat-panel monitor, keyboard and mouse (typically touch-pad) device, that gets rack-mounted in a standard (19″) server rack. When not in use, the flat panel display folds down so that the unit occupies minimal rack space (typically 1U to 2U, 1.75″ to 3.5″ in height). To use the rack-mount console, the user pulls it out like a drawer and tilts the flat panel up to expose the keyboard and touch-pad and to view the monitor. Depending on the model, rack-mount consoles are available with 13″, or 15″, or 17″ flat panel displays. Some models also offer an integrated KVM switch, or an integrated user station that gets connected to a KVM switch.
