Restrike option is used with an HID type fixture provided with a quartz lamp to provide emergency lighting. Upon power glitches or short duration failures of power, the HID fixture takes between five to fifteen minutes to cool and restrike. The quarts lamp provides the light illumination until the restrike occurs. Companies now have ballasts that can fill in for the power loss or failure eliminating the need for the quartz restrike.
