What is a “Quality-Enhanced” diamond?

0

An “enhanced” diamond is one that had inclusions (flaws) that were either “laser drilled” or “fracture-filled” or both. Sometimes, especially on ebay, crappy diamonds which were previously almost worthless can now be fixed and are being sold as “clarity enhanced.” The dark carbon flaws are drilled into with a laser beam and the carbon is burned&evaporates. This leaves empty space which often has to be filled with molten glass (fracture-filled). These “fixes” need to be properly disclosed, in case a jeweler has to work on re-tipping prongs with fire or use acids on the ring. The enhanced diamonds can be more fragile.
