What is a Protection from Harassment Order? How do I get one?
You can apply for a Protection from Harassment Order if: • You (or your family or business) has been intimidated, confronted, or threatened with physical force three or more times by the same person, and you were afraid, intimidated or suffered damage to your property as a result; • Free exercise of your Constitutional rights have been threatened by the same person three or more times; and/or • Your harasser has committed one of several serious criminal acts against you, such as criminal assault, terrorizing, gross sexual assault, criminal restraint, or arson. Maine law defines “harassment” as: • Three or more acts of intimidation, confrontation, physical force, or threat of physical force • These acts are directed against any person, family or business AND • These acts are made with the intention of causing fear, intimidation or damage to property AND • These acts do in fact cause fear, intimidation or damage to property. • (or) Three or more acts that are made with the intent to dete
