What is a property lien?

How is it used? If the respondent owns property, such as a house or land, the Office may register a lien against the property. The registration can be against a specific piece of property or can be a general registration against the respondent’s name. The lien will prevent the respondent from selling, remortgaging or leasing the property without making satisfactory payment arrangements with the Office. If satisfactory arrangements are made, the lien may be discharged altogether or postponed in favour of a bank or other agency. For further information, please call (306) 787-8961 or 1-866-229-9712 (outside of Regina area).
