What is a profitable business to start ($5000 budget)?
$5,000 is probably not enough to start any kind of business that needs retail space and/or a large inventory. Though you may be able to rent a space for a few hundred a month, you must realize that most businesses lose money in the first year or two, so you really need to have a substantial cushion to keep you going through the lean times. $5,000 won’t be enough to start your business and provide a cushion for the first year losses. So your best bet would be to have a service business that you run out of your home. Think of all of the things you’re good at and enjoy doing. Then think about the needs that customers in your neighborhood may have. Then once you’ve factored that all in, try to think of how you can use your knowledge and skills to satisfy the needs of your potential customers.
