What is a Probation Violation?
A probation violation may be defined as some action taken by a person who is on probation, constituting a violation of the terms of his or her probation. Probation is granted to certain defendants in lieu of part or all of their jail sentence, involving a situation where the defendant is supervised outside of jail. The defendant will need to abide by certain terms in order to successfully complete probation, and this may include regular reporting with a probation officer, paying fines, completing community service and more.
