What is a private-public partnership?
Longmont is a leader in innovative private-public affordable housing developments. In Boulder, the Holiday Neighborhood, 42% affordable, was developed in such a partnership. To avoid big-box retail development on the parcel, the city purchased the property, sold it to Boulder Housing Partners (BHP, the municipal housing authority) at cost, gave the neighborhood a density bonus for its high amount of affordable housing, and waived most of the site development fees. BHP acted in partnership with seven private developers and at least seven private non-profit organizations. The housing is hailed as economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable.
