What is a “presumed father?
The law will “presume” that under certain circumstances, a person who meets certain criteria is the father of a child. For example, a man who is married to the mother of a child on or near the time of conception of a child, may be the “presumed” father of the child. There are other circumstances where the law will presume that a man is the father, such as when a man consents to being named on a birth certificate.
