What is a Pressure Switch?
Pressure switches are devices that are configured to sense a change in pressure and respond in a specified manner. The pressure switch is utilized in many different environments, including manufacturing machinery and facilities, utility plants, and public buildings. In some designs, the pressure switch monitors and automatically responds to conditions, while other examples of the pressure switch require manual intervention. Generally, a pressure switch is included in any type of equipment that includes components that generate some type of pressure during operation. The pressure may relate to electrical current, the flow of natural gas or liquids, or the creation of steam. With each application, the pressure switch will include components that monitor the amount of pressure generated. As long as the pressure remains within acceptable levels, the pressure switch serves as an easy way to monitor activity. A pressure switch is utilized in systems that have an air compressor filling a tank. Basically it switches the compressor on or off when you need air or when you don’t. There are static switches & adjustable. If you plan on running higher pressure (for more height or what not) then go adjustable. This is definitely a recommended item, as it’s a pain in the ass to switch a compressor on or off manually, and you really don’t want it running more than it needs to!
