An auto dialer, autodialer, or autodialler is an electronic device or software that automatically dials telephone numbers. Once the call has been answered, the autodialer either plays a recorded message or connects the call to a live person.

When an autodialer connects an answered call to a live agent, it’s often called a “predictive dialer” or “power dialer”. A predictive dialer uses realtime analysis to determine the optimal time to dial more numbers, whereas a power dialer simply dials a pre-set number of lines when an agent finishes the previous call.

Predictive dialer is a PC based software program that calls a list of contacts as per programming instructions. Power dialer is also dialer which calls a  list of contacts. Power dialing is also called outbound calling but, unlike predictive dialers, It doesn’t use programming instructions to reduce idle time and increases productivity.

 

Generally, predictive dialers are used for business-to-consumer calling while power dialers are used for both business-to-consumer and business-to-business calls. Predictive dialers are generally not used for business-to-business calling.
