What is a postpartum check-up?
The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends a postpartum check-up for both vaginal and cesarean births. During the postpartum check-up, your practitioner: • Will make sure that your body has recovered from pregnancy and birth and that you are not having any problems • Will check your weight and blood pressure, examine your breasts and abdomen, and perform a pelvic exam • May also speak with you about postpartum depression or other concerns of depression you might be experiencing To monitor your recovery from pregnancy and birth, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and Unity encourage you to schedule your check-up within 4-6 weeks after delivery.
