What is a postdoctoral fellow?
The University defines a postdoctoral fellow as someone who meets the following six criteria: 1. Have recently (within five years) awarded a Ph.D. or the equivalent 2. Receive a temporary appointment 3. Be involved in substantially full-time research or scholarship 4. Hold an appointment that is viewed as preparatory for a full-time academic and/or research career 5. Work under the supervision of a faculty mentor in the University or one of its affiliated institutes 6. Have the freedom, and is expected, to publish the results of his or her research or scholarship during the period of the appointment.
