What is a pneumatic system used in?
Air tools use compressed air (pneumatics) by using the air to turn a turbine (a sort of fan). The turbine is on a shaft that also spin, which in turn spins a tool, such as a drill, grinder, dremel, etc. Big trucks use compressed air for their brake systems. The air pressure keeps the brake shoes from contacting the drums (which would cause friction, slowing the vehicle), until the brake pedal is depressed. When the pedal is depressed, some the the air is bled out of the system, causing the shoes to drag against the drums, slowing the vehicle. When the pedal is released, air is forced back into the system, “reinflating” the shoes back away from the drum.
