What is a PIN? Do I need one to file FAFSA on the Web?
A PIN is used as an electronic signature. You are able to file electronically with or without a PIN, however, PINs do make the process more efficient. If you are submitting the FAFSA on the Web without the students and/or parents PIN, be sure to print, sign and mail the signature page to the specified address as soon as possible. Each individual is assigned a PIN. (Parents of dependents: you need a PIN that is different from your childs.) The students PIN can be used to access Corrections on the Web and the Renewal FAFSA in the future. The same parent PIN can be reused as a parent signature for all dependent students in the household. How do I get a PIN? PINs can be obtained at www.pin.ed.gov and can be used each year. However, you must reapply for a new PIN after 18 months of inactivity. Name, Social Security number, birth date and address are required to complete the PIN application. With this information, the PIN will be mailed to you within 10 days or e-mailed within 3 days. We rec
