What is a Pharmaceutical Chemistry degree and how is it different from other degrees offered at Leicester?
The Pharmaceutical chemistry degrees were designed to create chemists who have specialist knowledge in the pharmaceutical industry from the inception of a drug target through compound development and clinical tests to marketing a medicine. Pharmaceutical Chemists are primarily organic chemists who are involved in drug design, synthesis and development and are multidisciplinary in their approach. They must be able to work in synergy with biologists to enhance and accelerate the drug discovery process. Pharmaceutical chemistry is a specialised topic which can only be taught over the period of the degree course and most of the new modules designed for this course are not offered on any other degree course.
