What is a Personnel Lifestyle Statement?
Many Christian organizations, including some churches—in addition to their doctrinal statements about theological beliefs—maintain a covenant detailing the organization’s behavioral or even attitudinal expectations for its employees. These statements or covenants can be very brief, perhaps noting basic ethical considerations, or they can be very detailed, listing a sometimes lengthy set of standards or rules to live by for all employees. The heritage of these statements is probably rooted in the great creeds of the ancient church, and the purpose of such statements is to help define the nature of the culture or community a particular organization wishes to create and maintain. Typically, employees agree to make or refrain from making certain lifestyle choices so that they embody the ideals of the Christian organization where they work and minister.
