What is a Personal Greeting?
The Personal Greeting is a message that you create during registration. Once you’ve completed your registration, each time you make an online purchase, a small window will pop up and ask you to enter your SecureCode. In this window, you’ll see your Personal Greeting. The Personal Greeting is your assurance that you are communicating with, and submitting your SecureCode to, your card issuer. If the Personal Greeting displayed in the pop-up window is incorrect, you should not enter your SecureCode, but should instead contact Customer Service immediately by calling the phone number on the back of your MasterCard card.
When you activate Secure Online Purchasing during shopping, a pre-assigned personal greeting that Secure Online Purchasing had selected for you is displayed. When you pay online, always look for your personal greeting before you enter your SecureCode to ensure that you’re using the authentic Secure Online Purchasing service. After activating Secure Online Purchasing you receive an email message with a link. We recommend that you click on this link and create a new, truly personal greeting. Please note that your personal greeting must not be similar to your SecureCode.
The Personal Greeting is a text message (6-30 characters long) that you select during registration. This text should be personal, however not secret. Each time a MasterCard SecureCode receipt will be presented to you by United Bank & Trust Washtenaw, you should look for the Personal Greeting – it proves it is a genuine receipt. Please note – you cannot select a Personal Greeting that will be identical to the SecureCode. Your SecureCode must be kept secret, while the Personal Greeting is openly displayed on the receipt.

The Personal Greeting is a message that you create when registering your Union Bank debit card. It provides the added assurance that the pop-up box came from Union Bank and is not a “phishing” attempt. An example of a Personal Greeting could be “My kids are five and nine” or “My cat’s name is Rascal.” The Personal Greeting will be displayed in the SecureCode pop-up box and will be seen only by you and not the merchant. If the Personal Greeting displayed in the pop-up box is incorrect or is missing, you should NOT enter your SecureCode, but should instead immediately contact Union Bank at 1-800-238-4486 and press option 6 to report a possible fraud.
