What is a periodical?
A magazine, journal, newspaper, or annual publication which is published at regular intervals. The Library subscribes to a large number of periodicals, mainly in print form but also as e-journals. All of these are listed in SAULCAT, so if you’re looking for a particular title, try a Periodical Title search in SAULCAT. However, if you’re trying to find articles on a topic, try searching one of the many databases bought by the Library, which index a wide range of periodicals in a specific subject area eg Philosophers Index, Bibliography of the History of Art, etc. Some databases provide the full-text of articles online eg ScienceDirect (sciences/management), PsycARTICLES (psychology), etc. All the full-text periodicals included in these databases are listed, and linked into, from SAULCAT – over 5,800, at present.
Periodicals are publications–like newspapers, magazines, and scholarly journals–that are published periodically. The Kean University Library holds periodicals in several formats. Many online periodicals are available, and you can access many of their full-text articles through the library databases. Online full-text journals may be accessed by using any computer located on campus. However, the library also has periodicals in print and microform formats that can only be used by coming to the library.
A periodical is a collection of various articles that are publications such as journals, newspapers, or magazines. If you are needing to follow information that is kept current and up to date a periodical would be better than using a book. Periodicals most often contain information and data on the latest trends, products, and research that may not even be available in book form.
