What is a pencil test?
The pencil test is a preview of the rough animation. It is a production/filming of the rough drawings (sometimes done with a Quick Action Recorder (QAR) or a computer program). This is done to help time the shots and determine how many cels/inbetweens are needed for the type of motion the shot requires. Some people may mistakenly use the term ‘pencil test’ to refer to rough drawings or douga.
