What is a .pdf file and how do I view them, like the Pilot Domicile Roster?
A .pdf file is a file created by Adobe Acrobat. What this does is allow authors to create files using any program they want. If they just posted these files in their original format, you would have to have that specific program to view them. By converting them into Acrobat’s .pdf format, anyone who has the free (yes, free) Adobe Acrobat plug-in can view the file. Most browsers already have the Acrobat plug-in installed. To view them, all you have to do is click on the link. If the plug-in is installed, it will automatically open up inside a browser window. If you don’t have the plug-in, it should automatically come up and offer you to download and install the plug-in for free. Some browsers may not do this automatically, so just go to Adobe’s site and follow the very easy download/install instructions. Mac users go here.
