The dialysis catheter is a soft tube that is put into the peritoneum (in the abdomen) under general anaesthetic. The operation normally takes place on a Tuesday afternoon and your child will be admitted to Victoria Ward on the morning of the day before. The operation itself lasts between one and two hours.
