What is a PCP and what does PCP-managed care mean?
A PCP is referred to as a primary care provider who participates in the DAKOTACARE network. A PCP is a “gatekeeper” for all of your medical needs and should be involved in every aspect of your health care in order to provide consistency and quality care. This means that while they may treat basic illnesses and injuries, they may also refer you to specialists and hospitals when needed. The types of doctors who are PCPs include: General Practitioners, Family Practitioners, General Internists and General Pediatricians. PCP-managed care means that you see your primary care provider (PCP) first when you need health care. PCP’s provide basic and limited preventive care and coordinate other care through a network of DAKOTACARE providers. Refer to your Summary Plan Description Documents for more information.
