What is a parent directory?

0

In the structure hierarchy of directories (a.k.a. folders in Microsoft Windows terminology) on a hard disk drive, files are placed into directories and sub-directories. There is a top-level directory (and if it’s really the top-level for an entire system, this is called the “root”directory), and it can have files and subdirectories at each directory level. A parent directory is the directory above the current directory.
